Tiger comeback
According to this weekends reports, Tiger has lost 12-14 pounds and will be out for about six months following his knee surgery.
So, what can be expected from one who is arguably the world’s greatest golfer? Like most great athletes will he will learn to play through pain that will undoubtedly grow worse and may result in an early career end?
Will he be able to adapt his stance enough to reduce the torque on his left knee at impact through finish? Are his monster crush drives at an end?
Tiger has many advantages of superior medical care, superior coaching, superior talent and superior mental attitude. If any body can come back to defy all negative expectations, it should be Tiger.
Normally, the type of damage that has been done to his knee with its resulting scar tissue would argue against a return to pre injury levels. What is interesting to me is how his injury highlights the forces that are regularly produced from a golf swing of the caliber of Tiger’s.
Typical golf injuries are low back, shoulder and elbow. However, Tiger’s body mechanics are so near perfect that these normal areas of injury are protected and the forces are passed, uncompensated through his target leg and specifically to his knee joint surfaces.(Just goes to show you that its a-a-a-l-l-lways something)
I would love to hear from any who read this that have analyzed Tiger’s swing from a perspective of force production. Are there any sports ergonomists out there?
One thing we can be sure of. Tiger will make a comeback and will still have some physical feats to delight and surprise us with.
